E-Safety

Academy Primary staff are committed to keeping all of our pupils safe. This is becoming ever more important as our pupils become increasingly active online.

Please see the attached link to ‘National Safety Online’ parents guides to age restriction advice and information about various apps children are using. These include, Instagram, WhatsApp, Fortnite, Minecraft, snapchat and You Tube.  There is also guidance on how to deal with online bullying screen addiction and online Grooming.

Children at Academy Primary School use the Internet on a regular basis as part of their learning. In school, we have regular 'e-safety' activities to remind children of the importance of keeping themselves safe online.

At home, sometimes children can be given unsupervised access to the Internet. This, potentially, allows them to access all kinds of society (both good and bad) and bring them virtually into their homes.

Here are some tips and useful links to help you to keep your children safe online:

Explore parent/carer pages on e-safety sites

– sites such as

http://www.childnet.com

http://www.commonsensemedia.org

http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk

http://www.parentinfo.org

Some more suggestions

  • Facebook / Instagram / Snapchat- Many of these sites have a minimum age limit of 13, so our children should NOT be using them.
  • Keep your computer in a shared area- Talk to your child about what they are doing online and, if possible, make sure your children use a computer/tablet/phone in a shared area at home so that you keep an eye on what sites they are frequenting.
  • Download an eSafety Posters: Why not put one up next to the computer at home and talk about it with your children?
         - Foundation and KS1 poster
         - Key stage 2 Poster
  • Make a family agreement, see template and advice.
